Former Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard, has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed his spot-kick in Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Thursday , because of his poor run-up.
Aubameyang was handed the task of getting Arsenal back in the game from the penalty spot, with City leading 3-0 at the Emirates.
However, the £56million club-record signing saw his effort kept out by Ederson.
Lampard, who was prolific from 12 yards during his own career, assessed Aubameyang’s strike after the game.
“You see what I don’t understand, he started very straight and then he makes this run out to come on the angle.
“I don’t understand why complicate the run-up. You’re giving yourself a problem.
“I used to take penalties with a straight run-up. If you take a straight run-up – take a straight run-up!
“I don’t understand the bend. All of a sudden you’re giving yourself something to think about, then the mind-games start. I do like it – and it might be old fashioned – make your mind up and your run-up stays as it is,” Lampard said.
