Monaco vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, has revealed that Real Madrid offered the same money Paris Saint-Germain put on the table for Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe eventually went to their Ligue 1 rival.
Monaco and PSG agreed a loan deal until the end of the season, with a transfer fee of over £166million to kick in before next season.
Real thought they had the Mbappe deal in the bag before he chose the Ligue 1 giants, where he’s now playing alongside Neymar.
“Yes, Real Madrid offered the same amount as the PSG,” Vasilyev told the Duga programme.
“I have always been clear and I won’t hide it, but I don’t like strengthening a direct competitor.
“I wouldn’t have done it, but I respected Kylian and his family’s wishes.”
