Manchester United could find themselves 15 points behind rivals and table toppers Manchester City by Wednesday, after their 2-2 draw with Burnley on Boxing Day.
The hosts were rattled as early as the second minute, after Ashley Barnes opened scoring at Old Trafford. Steven Defour piled more misery on Jose Mourinho’s men, firing an excellent free-kick past David De Gea before the break.
Mourinho threw on Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the start of the second half, as he plotted a way back into the match.
It was Lingard who scored twice, to rescue a point for the Red Devils, who now have 43 points from 20 fixtures.
City, who are on 55 points, travel to Newcastle United tomorrow.
In the other games played on Tuesday, Chelsea beat Brighton 2-0, Watford saw off Leicester City 2-1, it ended goalless between West Brom and Everton, Tottenham hammered Southampton 5-2 and it ended 3-3 between Bournemouth and West Ham.
